F.A.Q.

We’re here to allay your worries because travel is one of those things that inevitably leads to questions, worries, and doubts.
Here are a few of our most commonly asked questions about working with us.

  • About the Trips

Which trip is best for me?

We have designed trips that cover a wide range of ways to travel. From Adventure, Wellness to History and Culture trips, you can choose the tour that best fits your needs.

Can I customize my trip?

Please do! The trips shown here on our website are just for you to get inspired and explore the possibilities.
We encourage our travelers to tell us exactly what they need and we make it happen.

Does Terra Sur Travels offer family trips?

Terra Sur Travels believes that families that travel together stay together. We have established minimum ages to make sure that the activities are appropriate for all age groups. The minimum age varies according to the destination. The more adventurous the location, the higher the minimum age requirement.

Is it okay to travel solo in Latin America?

Absolutely! We encourage our travelers to travel solo at least once to not only get to explore incredible destinations but also explore their inner selves.

Do I have to pay extra if I’m travelling alone?

It depends on the location you are traveling to.
For cruises: It is a definite yes if you want the cabin for yourself.
You can also share a cabin with someone of the same gender on a cruise.
For the rest of the destinations, it varies from provider to provider.

Single accommodation is usually more expensive than a double room per person.

Please inform us at the time of booking if you don’t identify with the gender listed on your passport so that we can modify the rooming arrangement.

Can I travel to Latin America if I have a disability?

No matter your condition, Terra Sur Travels is dedicated to making travel universally accessible.
We will adjust the itinerary to accommodate the needs of travelers with disabilities. There are however destinations that are difficult to travel to.

Can LGBTQ+ travelers take Terra Sur Travels tours?

Absolutely. We believe that every traveler should feel safe and we are aware that many of our travelers identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Our travelers must be informed of the local laws and traditions in the places we visit because some locations have laws that discriminate against LGBTQ+ individuals.
We will advise our travelers accordingly and ensure they are comfortable and safe.

Is travel insurance mandatory?

We strongly advise all of our travelers to have travel insurance. We ask that you have medical expense coverage that includes emergency repatriation, at the very least. It doesn’t hurt to get a policy that also includes COVID-19, personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage or personal goods.
So, a good travel insurance that covers everything is highly recommended!

How long in advance should I confirm my trip?

The more time we have to plan your trip, the better. But we understand that sometimes the urge to travel comes unexpectedly. Just give us 72 hours heads-up to plan everything.
Conditions may apply.

  • About Payments

How can I pay for my trip?

We are committed to keeping all payments as easy and safe as possible for all our travelers.
We have online bank accounts in different currencies in which you can proceed with your payment once you confirm your trip.

Will I pay more for a trip if I book through you than an online booking site?

Not necessarily. Still, we do not use dynamic Pricing like most online booking sites do. We work directly with every single provider or hotel.

In many cases, we can get better prices and other promotional offerings that are not offered to the general public.

Do I have to pay fully up front for my trip?

No. You can confirm your trip with a downpayment as long as you are confirming 60+ days before the trip starts.

Please check our Terms & Conditions.

Does it cost money to get a quote?

No, it does not cost money to get a quote from Terra Sur Travels. Simply fill out our online form, email, or give us a call, and we will be happy to provide you with a free quote for your trip.
Conditions may apply.

Can I use a credit card while traveling?

It is advisable to travel with a credit card, an ATM card, or a bank-issued “cash card” designed expressly for travel. Having multiple solutions ensures that you are covered in the event that one doesn’t work.
If you can withdraw money depends on the potluck in some countries.

  • About Responsible Travel, Sustainability & Long-Term Impact

What does “responsible travel” mean at Terra Sur Travels?

For us, responsible travel means operating within the environmental, cultural, and logistical limits of each destination. We design trips that respect local communities, minimize environmental pressure, and prioritize long-term sustainability over short-term convenience. This often means smaller groups, regulated access, and realistic expectations rather than rushed or mass-market itineraries.

How do you approach sustainability in sensitive destinations like the Galapagos?

The Galapagos are one of the most tightly regulated travel destinations in the world, and for good reason. We work exclusively within official regulations, respect visitor limits, and collaborate with licensed guides and operators who follow conservation protocols. Sustainability here is not a marketing term—it is enforced by law, science, and necessity.

Can tourism really help protect places like the Galapagos and mainland Ecuador?

Tourism can support conservation when it is well-managed, limited in scale, and aligned with local stakeholders. It can also cause harm when it prioritizes volume over impact. Our role is to help terravelers navigate this balance by choosing responsible operators, respecting rules, and understanding that not every place is meant for unlimited access.

Do you discourage certain types of travel or activities?

Yes. If a requested itinerary would place unnecessary pressure on fragile ecosystems, wildlife, or local communities, we will recommend alternatives or explain why certain experiences are restricted. Responsible travel sometimes means saying no—to ourselves and to travelers.

How does climate change affect travel in South America and the Galapagos?

Climate change is already influencing weather patterns, wildlife behavior, and ecosystems across South America. In the Galapagos, warmer ocean temperatures and stronger El Niño events can disrupt food chains and affect endemic species. These realities are part of modern travel planning and are taken into account when designing itineraries.

Why are some destinations, routes, or activities limited or seasonal?

Restrictions are not meant to inconvenience travelers; they exist to protect ecosystems and ensure safety. Seasonal closures, access limits, and route restrictions are often based on environmental conditions, wildlife cycles, or conservation needs. Respecting these limits helps preserve destinations for future generations.

How can terravelers travel more responsibly before and during their trip?

Responsible travel starts with informed decisions: choosing the right season, respecting local rules, minimizing waste, and listening to local guides. We provide guidance before and during each trip so terravelers understand not just where they are going, but how to behave responsibly once they arrive.

Is responsible travel more expensive?

Often, yes. Smaller group sizes, licensed guides, fair wages, and regulated access come at a cost. However, these costs reflect the true price of preserving fragile destinations. Responsible travel is not about luxury—it is about accountability.
