Venezuela Travel Advisory Update – Entry, Flights & Insurance Remain Restricted
Published: 04 January 2026
Despite increased international media attention and renewed geopolitical discussions, travel conditions for Venezuela have not changed in any material way for international travelers.
As of mid-January 2026, Venezuela remains closed to organized tourism through professional, insured tour operators, including Terra Sur Travels. The limiting factors are not isolated incidents but structural constraints that continue to affect entry, movement, and traveler protection.
Entry & Border Situation
Venezuela’s land borders remain unreliable for tourism, particularly along the Colombian and Brazilian frontiers.
Entry requirements and enforcement vary by crossing point and can change without notice.
There is currently no standardized, tourism-friendly entry framework in place.
For terravelers, this means entry cannot be planned with predictable outcomes.
Airspace & Commercial Flights
International flight connections remain limited and volatile.
Schedule changes, cancellations, and route suspensions continue to occur with little advance notice.
Aviation insurance and maintenance restrictions remain a major obstacle for reliable service.
Even when flights are available, exit reliability is not guaranteed, which is a critical risk factor for travelers.
Travel Insurance & Medical Coverage
One of the most decisive constraints remains insurance.
At present:
Many international travel insurance policies exclude coverage for Venezuela.
Emergency medical evacuation coverage is often invalid or unavailable.
Liability exposure for tour operators remains unacceptably high.
Without valid insurance, responsible tourism operations are not possible.
Embassy & Consular Support
Several countries maintain limited or no consular presence in Venezuela. Assistance for travelers in legal, medical, or evacuation scenarios is therefore extremely restricted.
Terravelers should understand that consular safety nets commonly relied upon elsewhere in Latin America do not function normally in Venezuela.
Terra Sur Travels Position
Terra Sur Travels continues to monitor the situation closely, but we do not offer travel to Venezuela at this time.
