This compact Andean journey connects two of Ecuador’s most iconic volcanic landscapes in just two days. From the high-altitude páramo of Cotopaxi National Park to the emerald waters of Quilotoa Crater Lake, terravelers experience dramatic scenery, open landscapes, and authentic highland culture without rushing. The tour is available as a shared group experience or as a private tour with flexible pacing.
Departing Quito in the morning, the journey follows the legendary Avenue of the Volcanoes toward Cotopaxi National Park. Upon arrival, terravelers explore the vast páramo landscapes surrounding one of Ecuador’s most iconic peaks.
At Cotopaxi, travelers choose one of two experiences:
Option 1: Hike to the José Rivas Refuge and, weather and conditions permitting, continue onto the glacier with a certified guide.
Option 2: A three-hour horseback ride through the national park, crossing open plains and volcanic terrain at a more relaxed pace.
In the late afternoon, the tour continues to a local hotel or lodge in the Cotopaxi or Latacunga area.
Overnight: Simple 3-star hotel or lodge
Meals included: Lunch
After breakfast, the route winds through rural Andean villages toward Quilotoa Crater Lake. Upon arrival, terravelers walk along the crater rim, with the option to descend toward the lake itself depending on fitness level and weather conditions. The striking colors of the lake and surrounding landscape make this one of the most memorable stops in the Ecuadorian Andes.
In the afternoon, the journey returns to Quito, arriving in the early evening.
