The Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos: pristine islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a plethora of endemic wildlife, on land and sea. What better place to experience the evolution of life on earth first-hand?
Underwater wildlife like nowhere else swims, feeds, mates, and gives birth in the species-rich waters of the archipelago.

A natural laboratory

Most famously traveled by Charles Darwin. He not only based his evolutionary theory on what he discovered in the Galapagos but also made them world-famous. The Galapagos Islands are an extraordinary destination for scientists, nature lovers, and travelers alike.

Throughout its more than 20 major islands and numerous rocks that each tell a slightly different story of its origin and coming-of-age, it is way beyond what other places on earth can tell.

Inhabited by an incredibly unique and endemic variety of creatures, the Galapagos archipelago is definitely the place to go.
Be it for hopping between islands or joining a cruise to the very outskirts, where only very few people have gone before.

What to do?

Santa Cruz: the biggest island with the most inhabitants right in the heart of the archipelago. This island might be the starting point for your adventures in the Galapagos.
The town of Puerto Ayora with its port makes many tours to neighboring islands.
You can go snorkeling and diving from Puerto Ayora.

The highlands and the Charles Darwin Research Station are definitely also must-sees.

Isabela Island in the west is famous for amazing hikes to one of the largest volcano calderas in the world, Sierra Negra.

Floreana in the south was once the scenery for a murder mystery story amongst german settlers, famously called The Galapagos Affair.

San Cristobal, the most eastern and oldest of the islands, has multiple diving spots and hosts the second airport in the Galapagos.
